Our Tutors are experienced musicians, from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, ranging from highly respected session musicians to established signed artists. 

Songwriting: Garrison Starr

Los Angeles based singer songwriter Garrison Starr originally signed to Geffen Records in 1996 at the age of 21. Since that time she has released work under Virgin Records and Vanguard Records with a total of 6 solo studio albums and various EPs under her belt. Now an independent artist, Garrison has also enjoyed success with hit singles such as "Superhero" and "Beautiful in Los Angeles. Her music has featured on a number of TV shows, including "Brothers and Sisters", "The Hills" and "Life Unexpected"  A tireless live performer, Garrison has toured, recorded and performed with artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket) Steve Earle and Josh Joplin. Garrison is also an integral part of the Grammy Award nominated "Cho-dependent" Album by Margaret Cho. Garrison's most recent Album "Relive" released in October 2010 is a live album and includes stunning live performances of some of her best loved songs from the last 15 years.

Guitar: Lewis Turner

Lewis Turner is a highly accomplished guitarist, with years of performing, recording, session and teaching experience. He has worked on recordings and live work for various singer songwriters and bands. Lewis performs all over the UK and abroad, as well as Theatre, TV and Radio wok. He has his own Jazz fusion trio, and has just released his first solo album “The Beckoning Silence”. Lewis teaches all abilities from beginners up to Masters. Many of his students have gone on to become professional players. Lewis is well versed in several different styles from Pop to Metal.

Songwriting and Performance: Chris T-T

Since 1999, influential English alt-folk singer Chris T-T has released seven studio albums, one live CD and a pile of singles and EPs.

His resumé includes shows with: Ben Folds, British Sea Power, The Divine Comedy, Elbow, Bellowhead, The National, The Walkmen, Quasi, Tom Robinson, Brakes, Frank Turner, Electric Soft Parade, KT Tunstall, Emma Pollock (Delgados), Carter USM, The Broken Family Band, Jim Bob, author Iain Sinclair, Madrugada, Hefner, Robyn Hitchcock, Ricky Ross (Deacon Blue) and many others. He has played sessions on BBC1 Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, XFM, Radio Ulster and many more.

Chris released his his most recent album 'Love Is Not Rescue' in March 2010.

Songwriting and Performance: Matt Creer

Former student of the Royal College of Music in London, Matt is a classically trained and highly accomplished musician and songwriter, with extensive performance and session recording experience in both classical and rock contexts. He has performed on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 3, and appeared on BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4 in a diverse range of ensembles from Symphony Orchestras to Metal bands. 

Matt has performed and recorded throughout  the UK, including venues such as the Royal Albert Hall. He has toured extensively in Europe and as far afield as New Zealand. He has worked on numerous collaborative songwriting projects and released an acoustic album "Empty Rooms" with singer songwriter Katherine Crowe in February 2011. Matt's debut solo album 'Lanterns' was released in June 2011.

Vocal Tutor - Kimberley Roberts


Kimberley is a music graduate with significant professional singing experience, performing all over the UK, including being the lead vocalist on a top 10 dance track and backing vocalist for singer Russell Watson on his 2009 UK Tour. Kimberley's television appearances, include BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. Kimberley has also been a member of the highly acclaimed Sense of Sound Choir. Kimberley is a highly accomplished singing tutor and skilled at developing harmonising skills, confidence, stage presence and vocal techniques in her students. 

Drums: Shane Kerwin

Shane originates from the IOM but now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Recording his first album at the age of 17 with Vincent Cross, you can also hear Shane on Anna Goldsmith's album 'Let it Be'. and playing cajon on 'Roll Away', the debut album from the now legendary guitarist Davy Knowles. Graduating from Drumtech, London with distinction in 2006 Shane quickly stablished himself as a popular and skilled drum teacher.  

Shane has taken all of the playing experience he got from the local Manx scene and proved that it counts by moving to New York, establishing himself as an equally in demand drummer there. He has played with Blue Note featured artists in some of New York's most famous jazz clubs and has become a staple on the Brooklyn music scene and now keeps a popular teaching practice in New York.

Vocals: Jay Norton

Hailing from Liverpool, Jay is an experienced singer having worked on various BBC shows including 'Boys Don't Sing' (Workshop), 'Songs Of Praise' and 'The Last Choir Standing' (Sense of Sound)]. Jay has toured extensively, most notably with Russel Watson, and parts of Europe including Les Nuits De Fourviere festival in both Lyon and Paris as part of 'Sense Of Sound Choir' in celebration of The Beatles 'Let It Be' album's anniversary.

Jay is an active singer/songwriter. In Dec. 2008 he signed to a US based Indie Label (Nordstarmusic), and wrote and recorded a full length album ('Perfect Like Fiction') with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Fiona Apple, Jack's Mannequin, Something Corporate, Elliot Minor). In June/July '10 however Jay parted from the label after the album never reached final release.

Now an independent artist, Jay is working in both a singing, songwriting and production capacity on various local projects and was recently included in the MOBO's "One to watch" list for 2011.
